Coast Guard evaluates water quality

Tribune Staff • Jul 21, 2015 at 12:27 PM

Pollution and industrial facility specialists from the Coast Guard joined members of the state's Department of Natural Resources and Department of Environmental Quality in an effort to identify factors that could affect water quality in numerous Lake Michigan ports, and take water samples that will be compared to existing records and future readings.

Additional support will be provided by Coast Guard law enforcement teams and federal agents, as well as local responders.

A Coast Guard news release described its interest in this activity with this statement: “Establishing an awareness of the factors which impact our water quality, both natural and manmade, benefit not only conservation efforts, but enforcement by preventing false identification of anomalies in response to reported pollution.”
