The remodeled building at 18964 174th Ave. includes 9,000 square feet of meeting and training space, and a truck bay that can hold four full-size fire trucks and smaller rescue vehicles.
That's almost triple the size of the former fire barn about a half-mile south.
“The large open garage space is a key component in the building because it allowed us a clean canvas to work from,” Sipe said. “We have been able to add bunk rooms, kitchen area, day room and a large meeting room that the Fire Department and township can utilize.”
The township paid $320,000 for the new digs, which includes a mezzanine level that will be incorporated into training space. Interior construction includes two upper-level “windows” that firefighters can practice entering.
Renovations total another $300,000.
Sipe said the nearly 5-acre property will also come in handy for training. He said firefighters may be able to set up makeshift buildings and vehicles to simulate rescues.
