Saturday is Prescription Drug Take-Back Day: Check her for locations in Ottawa County

Tribune Staff • Jul 21, 2015 at 12:31 PM

The Ottawa County Public Health Department, Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, Zeeland Police Department, Spartan Stores, Pfaff Pharmacy and Taskers Drug Store invites Ottawa County residents to visit any of the 17 locations accepting both controlled and non-controlled substances (see the list below). These sites are located throughout the county and accept medication disposal year-round.

Please check each location’s hours of operation.

Law enforcement locations are able to accept both controlled and non-controlled substances, while the retail pharmacy and health department locations can only accept non-controlled substances.

“From fall 2010 to spring 2013, the Ottawa County Solid Waste Program has collected approximately 4,300 pounds of medications for incineration, keeping kids safe and our environment clean,” Environmental Health Supervisor Matt Allen said.

For ease of use and privacy, remove pills from their bottles and place in a Ziploc bag.  Lotions, creams and liquids may remain in their original packaging, but need to be sealed in a Ziploc bag as well. Remove the label or black out any personal information that might remain on the original container.

Needles, sharps, IV bags or other medical waste are not accepted at these sites.
