“As It Is Written: The fine art of calligraphy” runs through Aug. 16.

The Kalamazoo guild was organized in 1983 to foster an appreciation of calligraphy, and promote the study and practice of calligraphy as an art form.

Featured in the exhibit are two installations created from a collaboration by guild members — an illustrated alphabet and a collection of biblical quotations rendered in black and white. Seventeen members of the guild entered individual works for the exhibit. Calligraphic art, alphabet paintings on silk, and handmade manuscript books are on exhibit. Historical letterforms of scribes throughout the centuries are described and illustrated.

Second Christian Reformed Church is at the corner of Robbins and Sheldon roads. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 9 a.m. to noon Fridays. Special arrangements for off-hour visits can be made by calling the church office at 616-842-0710.
