Flood watch for Ottawa County
Jul 21, 2015 at 2:15 PM
The National Weather Service says additional rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected Sunday afternoon and evening. The rain will continue into Monday morning.
Some areas of West Michigan could see as much as 4 inches of rainfall since Saturday afternoon.
Adding to the flood threat are the high soil moisture and river levels that are already well above normal from the spring thaw.
The watch area includes much of west and central Lower Michigan.
* High soil moisture content will allow for efficient runoff into rivers and streams. River levels are already well above normal for this time of year due to earlier rains and snow melt across the area.
* Concerns not only exist along main rivers, but small creeks and streams may potentially see significant rises as well. Lowland and urban ponding of water may also occur in the heavier bursts of rain.
* Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
