Michigan adjusted jobless rate up to 7.5 percent

The Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget said Wednesday that May's jobless rate was up from 7.4 percent in April, when it hit the lowest level in six years.

The national rate for May was 6.3 percent, unchanged from April.

Michigan's jobless rate stood at 8.9 percent in May 2013.

The state said the labor force expanded by 3,000 to 4.743 million in May, and the number of people working grew by 1,000 to 4.389 million. The agency said 354,000 people were unemployed but actively seeking work, which is 2,000 higher than in April.
