Brady expressed his gratitude and appreciation to Coast Guard City USA and those who have made his years as commanding officer memorable. Brady took over as commanding officer of the Sector Field Office in 2011.
“I think it’s this hands-on attitude that makes this community so strong,” he said. “It’s really the community that brings the events together.”
Brady read an excerpt from a 17th-century poem about a “lost love” to describe his time serving in Grand Haven.
Brady has been reassigned to the Coast Guard Marine Safety Center in Arlington, Va. He is being replaced in Grand Haven by Lt. Aaron Urbanawiz.
Urbanawiz is a graduate of the Chief Petty Officers Academy Class 151 and Chief Warrant Officer Professional Development Class 05-09. He was joined at Friday’s Change of Command ceremony by his wife, Jamie, and his two children, Natasha and Garrett.
Capt. Amy Cocanour — who took over command of Coast Guard Sector Lake Michigan on June 17 — honored Brady for setting a standard of excellence and exceeding all expectations during his term as a unit senior leader. She said he developed family-friendly policies.
“My memories in Grand Haven started even before I was stationed here — (the) 2009 Brady family vacation,” Brady said as he shared a smile with his wife and kids.
