YMCA search is on

Bailey-Mesler was appointed by the local YMCA Board of Directors to take over for Dean Buntley after he and the organization parted ways earlier this summer.

Buntley resigned after seven years at the helm. The reasons for his resignation were not disclosed.

YMCA Board President Ron Bultje said the search for a replacement is progressing, but the board has no timetable in mind.

“The board is very pleased with Michelle Bailey-Mesler as interim director,” Bultje said. “We are proceeding, but we don't feel an urgency to move as quickly as possible because she's done such a great job. Because of that, we're able to take our time and consider all alternatives.”

Bailey-Mesler started teaching fitness classes at the local YMCA more than a decade ago. She has served as fitness and program director since 2009.

Bailey-Mesler said she doesn't want the after-hours commitments of a CEO job to interfere with her family time.

“Moving forward, with my personal and professional goals, it's not the right time (to consider a permanent CEO position),” she said. “I'm going to keep up with what's going on until they can find the right candidate. They're not in a rush and want to make sure they get the right person in there.”

Bultje said the board is using the national YMCA to assist in the search.
