He was born in Okemah, Oklahoma, on October 25, 1924, to Wilburn and Alice (Martin) George, and graduated from Bearden High School. Sam entered the U.S. Navy during World War II. After he was discharged, he graduated from Oklahoma University with his bachelor’s degree in science. He would serve his country one more time during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. George married the former Sammi Becher on August 5, 1979, and had been a consulting engineer for years until retiring. Sam was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE).
Survivors: his wife of 38 years, Sammi; sons, Bruce W. George of Wyoming and Charles (Michelle) George of Nevada; five grandchildren; stepson, Aaron Becher; and stepdaughter, Judy (Bob) Porath. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ray George, and brother, Thomas.
