She was born March 18, 1925, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Charles and Louise Maurer; and she married Herman Joseph Meilinger on July 16, 1947, in Grand Haven. He preceded her in death on September 13, 2012.
Betty was a member of St. Patrick-St. Anthony Catholic Church. She loved cooking, arts and crafts, and helping children as a volunteer, but most of all spending time with her family and friends.
She is lovingly remembered by her four children: Herman (Karen) Meilinger Jr. of Grand Rapids, Peter (Linda) Meilinger of Fruitport, Mary (Stephan) DeWitt of Empire and Chris (Robin) Meilinger of San Antonio, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Ernestine Maurer of Grand Haven. She was preceded in death by her son, Dr. Michael Meilinger I; her sister, Martha Latiak; and two brothers, Charles and John Maurer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 16, 2017, at St. Patrick-St. Anthony Catholic Church with Father Charles Schwartz officiating. Friends may meet the family 1-3 p.m. Sunday, October 15, at Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, The VanZantwick Chapel, 620 Washington Ave., Grand Haven, with a rosary at 1 p.m. Interment will be in Lake Forest Cemetery.
