Betsy will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Brad; her mother, Lou Radtke Bogner; her son, Sam (Emily); and her brother, Andrew. She was predeceased by her father, Gerald (Jerry) Bogner.
Betsy was born in Jackson on April 29, 1955. She was active throughout West Michigan as a performer, teacher, chamber music coach and arts administrator. Betsy was the artistic administrator for Fontana Chamber Arts in Kalamazoo. She also served as principal flutist of the Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra and personnel manager for the organization. Betsy performed as flutist in the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra woodwind quintet and performed regularly with the Bach Festival Orchestra and Kalamazoo Symphony, also serving as personnel manager for the KSO. In addition, she made solo appearances with pianists Christopher O’Riley and Gilbert Kalish at past Gilmore Keyboard Festivals. Betsy was a teaching artist in the Aesthetic Education Program of Education for the Arts, a program of the Kalamazoo Regional Educational Service Agency and affiliate of the Lincoln Center Institute for Arts in Education. She also taught for Kalamazoo Kids in Tune, a youth development program serving grades 1-5 students at KPS Woods Lake Elementary, a program sponsored by Communities in Schools of Kalamazoo, KPS and the Kalamazoo Symphony.
Friends and family can visit while sharing food and drinks on Monday (Dec. 11) from 4-7 p.m. at the Betzler Life Story Funeral Homes, 6080 Stadium Drive, Kalamazoo (269-375-2900), where a service will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday (Dec. 12). A reception will follow in the Life Story Center.
