John graduated from Plainwell High School, and then went to Albion College and Duke Law School to pursue his degree in law. He received his C.P.A., and was employed through Varnum Law, then took his career to Scholten and Fant of Grand Haven. In addition to John’s career in law, he played a major role in the development of three major foundations: the Tri-Cities YMCA, Hospice of North Ottawa Community and the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation. In addition to his law success, he also was the former owner of M&S Companies and The Wright Coating Company. John held active memberships in the Rod and Gun Club and the Spring Lake Country Club, and was a former member of the Lions Club. He had many hobbies he enjoyed, some of which included boating, reading, riding his Harley-Davidson and traveling. John was a huge Duke Blue Devils fan, always supporting his school’s sports.
John will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Nancy; daughters, Megan Carlyle (Tim) Datson and Amy (Kyle) Williams; four grandchildren: Sadie and Lucas Williams, and Mairin and Will Carlyle; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother, Butch (Annie) Carlyle.
A Celebration of John’s Life will be held at Spring Lake Country Club on Friday, June 22, from 5-8 p.m.
