Anonymous • Jul 21, 2015 at 10:53 AM

The Bucs led 3-2 going into the final inning, but three Grandville runs in the bottom of the fifth gave the Bulldogs the win.

Nick Keller, who threw a no-hitter for Spring Lake last week, tossed a one-hitter over five innings on Thursday as the Lakers beat Oakridge, 4-2.

The Lakers took advantage of some timely hitting. Ryan Walling’s two-out single drove in a pair of runs, then J.P. Batts provided a two-out double that drove in two more.

Adam Clauss and Logan Pellegrom added hits for Spring Lake, while Nic Bectel pitched two hitless innings to earn the save.

Fruitport senior pitcher Cody Merkins keeps on turning in sparkling performances on the mound, but the Trojans have only one win to show for it this season.

Merkins suffered another hard-luck loss on Thursday, as Ravenna downed Fruitport, 4-2, despite a two-hit, nine-strikeout outing from Merkins.

Errors plagued the Trojans on Thursday, including three in the first inning that paved the way for three unearned runs for the Bulldogs (2-2 overall).

Fruitport clawed back with a double from Erik Johnson and a sacrifice fly from Gene Archer for its first run. The Trojans added another run in the seventh inning, as Zack Goldman scored on an RBI single from John Sullivan.

Fruitport finished with just three hits during the evening.
