Host Western Michigan Christian’s boys baseball team lost a tough 8-7 game to Covenant Christian Thursday in their River Valley Conference opener.
Sophomore Collin Adams started on the mound for the Warriors and went four innings, giving up three runs, only one of which was earned. Sophomore Austin Sandin pitched the final three innings, giving up five runs — two earned.
Tim Schuitema went 2-for-4; Christian Brower 3-for-3; and Chase Sutter 2-for-3.
SOCCER COMES UP SHORT
In a battle for an early season first-place spot in the River Valley Conference, defending champion North Pointe Christian came out on top of Western Michigan Christian 4-1.
Trailing 4-0 late in the game, the Warriors’ Rachel Karsten set up Timera Crosby for her fourth goal of the season.
WMC falls to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in conference, while the Mustangs moved to 4-3 and 2-0 in conference.
