Lumberjacks' inaugural season comes to a close

Travis Belohrad set up Matt DeBlouw for the Jacks’ first goal just 2:40 into the second. Then Casey Thrush redirected Carter Foguth’s shot from the point through his legs and through goalie Brady Hjelle’s five-hole to even the score with 9:13 gone by in the middle frame.

But Nick Saracino redirected a point drive for a goal of his own with 8:26 left in the second. The Riders scored three times in the third before a blast from Lumberjacks’ captain John Parker got his team back within three on the power play with 6:03 left to play.

But despite the Jacks’ desperate efforts, they couldn’t beat Hjelle again, and Stu Wilson scored an empty-netter with just two seconds left.

Belohrad had the lone multi-point game for the Jacks, as he also assisted on Parker’s goal. Joel Vienneau stopped 28 of the 34 shots he faced and took the loss.

The Jacks outshot the Riders 36-35.
