Swanson, a redshirt senior offensive lineman for the Broncos’ football team, graduated with a 3.50 grade point average and a degree in Journalism. He has been previously honored as a two-time recepient of the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American award and a three-time Academic All-District IV honoree.
Swanson was a four-year starter for the Broncos, and started 48 of 49 career games at guard.
The female Senior Scholar-Athlete award was presented to Broncos’ volleyball player Allyson Doyle, a Battle Creek native.
Fellow Grand Haven graduate John Potter was also recognized as an underclass scholar-athlete at WMU. The award recognizes sophomores and juniors student-athletes with a 3.20 grade point average or higher.
Potter, a junior kicker on the Broncos’ football team, earned third team All-MAC honors this past fall after making 10-of-12 field goals and a perfect 50-of-50 extra points.
Potter has connected on 72 straight extra points, which is a WMU record.
