Will VerDuin had three hits, including a double, and drove in two runs. Zelenka also did some damage with his bat as he singled, tripled and drove in a run. Adam Krizan added two singles and an RBI for the Bucs (7-4, 4-2 O-K Red).

Adam Poel earned the win in the opener, a 14-3 Grand Haven win. He went 5.1 innings, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out eight. Will Mulligan got the final two outs for the Bucs.

In that contest, Grand Haven led 9-0 after two innings and looked poised to envoke the mercy rule early on, but Muskegon pushed three runs across the plate over the next two innings. Two runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth gave Grand Haven their final margin of victory.

Jeff Stevens, VerDuin and Matt Kroll each had two hits, with Stevens driving in a pair of runs.

Fruitport’s varsity baseball team won its third-straight contest on Thursday, beating Lakes Eight Conference foe Newaygo, 4-1.

Trojans’ pitchers Mike Ryan, Cody Bayle and Cody Merkins combined to hold Newaygo to just four hits. The Lions’ lone run came in the first inning and it was unearned.

Fruitport (4-3 overall) tallied nine hits and scored two runs in both the second and third innings to take control. John Sullivan, Tony Brown, Ryan, and Merkins each had multiple hits. Head coach Paul Masko also highlighted the strong defense from Lance Gilbert.

The Trojans hope to keep rolling today as they travel to Ludington.
