Golf roundup: SL defends home course

The Lakers and the rest of the Lakes Eight field return to action today as Fruitport hosts its jamboree at 1:30 p.m. at Oakridge Country Club.


Grand Haven received several outstanding performances, including a round of 46 from John Morehouse, as the Buccaneers edged the Grandville Bulldogs.

The teams each shot a 163, but Morehouse’s 46 was one stroke better than Grandville’s fifth man score, giving the Bucs the victory.

Kevin LaCroix shot a 37 and Mark Nalley a 40 for Grand Haven. Patrick Ferris and Ben Lewis each shot a 43.


Host Western Michigan Christian finished third out of 10 teams Saturday at the Western Michigan Christian Open for Christian Schools at Chase Hammond Golf Club in Muskegon.

The Warriors scored 339 behind meet winner Grand Rapids South Christian at 320 and Grand Rapids Christian at 334. Other schools competing were Kalamazoo Christian-341, Hudsonville Unity Christian-346, Grandville Calvin Christian-360, Covenant Christian-380, NorthPointe Christian-389, Fruitport Calvary Christian-416 and Hudsonville Freedom Christian-428.

Medalist was Ben Cook of South Christian with a 73.

Alec Breit of WMC finished second overall with a 78 and Collin Breit finished fourth overall with an 80. Sam Vos had a 90 and Jon Cook a 91 for the Warriors.
