A dominating performance from Fruitport pitcher Mike Ryan carried the Trojans’ varsity baseball team to an opening-game 7-0 victory over Class B state-ranked Holland Christian on Saturday at Fruitport High School.

The Maroons gained revenge on the hosts in Game 2 of the doubleheader, winning 13-2 in six innings.

Ryan held the Maroons to just two hits in Game 1, while also striking out five and walking none. The Trojans’ big inning came in the third, as they chalked up four runs on singles from Gene Archer, Cody Merkins, and Ryan, as well as RBI fielder choices from Zack Goldman and John Sullivan.

Fruitport also shined defensively, committing no errors.
