SL girls track wins Lakes Eight championship

The Lakers’ Brianna Brady, Ymani Williams, Kathryn Rumptz and Becca Mumby won the 400-meter relay in 53.53 seconds.

Georgie Klem, Katie Wells, Lydia Suchecki and Rosie Seitz took first in the 1,600 relay in 4 minutes, 23.70 seconds. In the 800 relay, the Lakers’ Megan VanDeWeg, Williams, Suchecki and Seitz took first place in 1:51.31.

The fourth relay, the 3,200, was won by Fruitport, as Breanne Burns, Rachel Folkmier, Mallory Vest and Brianna Pekel ran to victory in 10:11.20.

Rumptz won a pair of individual events for Spring Lake. She outran the field to win the 100 dash in 13.54 seconds, while teammate Williams sixth at 14.04. Rumptz also won the long jump with an effort of 15 feet, 9 inches.

Brittany Beeler won the 1,600 run for the Lakers in 5:15.86, and also took first in the 3,200 run in 11:39.19.

The Lakers’ Allie LeRoux took first in the pole vault with an effort of 8-9.

The Lakers also showed off their depth as Mumby, Suchecki, Grace Peterson and VanDeWeg took second, third, fourth and fifth places, respectively, in the long jump.

In the 400 dash, Seitz placed second in 1:02.75, followed by Emma Mitchell and Katie Wells tied for sixth.

Mumby and Audrey Gray took second and fourth, respectively, in the 100 hurdles. That same pair took third and fifth, respectively, in the 300 hurdles.

LeRoux placed fifth in the long jump; Danielle Berkobien finished fourth in the pole vault; Ashley Warner placed fifth in the 1,600 run; Cory Cook was fourth in the 800; and Williams finished fifth in the 200 dash.

For the Trojans, Pekel and Folkmier finished 1-2 in the 800 run. Pekel also won the 400 dash, with teammate Heidi Klinger taking fourth. Klinger then won the 200 dash, finishing just ahead of Pekel in that event.

Folkmier finished second behind Beeler in both the 1,600 and 3,200 runs.

Toni Parker won the high jump, clearing the bar at 5-2, while Kayleigh Schulte placed second in the long jump and Toni Kamp was second in the discus.

Both the Lakers and the Trojans will compete in the Division 2 regional tournament on Friday at Zeeland East.
