Fruitport coach Bob Dorman was confident the win sealed a second-place finish for Fruitport in the Lakes Eight Conference, trailing only league-leading Fremont. The Trojans are 19-9 overall and 9-3 in league play.

Vanderwall turned the tables in Game 2, as her seven-strikeout complete-game effort shut down the Trojans in a 5-1 contest. A solo home run by Orchard View’s Mary Guidice got the Cardinals rolling in the first inning.

Rachael Adams banged out six hits and drove in three runs, helping Spring Lake’s varsity softball team sweep Grant on Tuesday.

The Lakers won 14-3 in the opener, then took the second game, 14-9.
