“In high school baseball, if you get good pitching, good defense and timely hitting, good things happen, and we had all of those things in Saturday’s championship game,” said Grand Haven coach Morey Wagenmaker. “Adam threw well. He hit his spots. He threw a lot of ground balls, and we made the plays. Our kids were up for the task, and I’m very excited for them. I’m happy to see all their hard work pay off.”

Doug Zelenka provided much of the offense as he singled, homered and drove in two runs. Danny Cotter doubled, tripled and drove in a run, while Adam Krizan and Jeff Stevens each had run-scoring singles for the Bucs, who advance to Saturday’s Division 1 regional tournament at Jenison.

Grand Haven reached the district finals with a 15-0 blanking of Muskegon in the semifinal round.
