“It’s one of those things where nothing surprises me at this point because everything’s a surprise,” said Thelen, who let his team give him a mohawk after Saturday’s win.
“It was something the girls had proposed the other day, and I tried to back off a little bit. They wanted to do it after the Coopersville game (in the district semifinals) but I backed off, then it came up on the bus ride to the Fruitport game and I said, ‘Win the game and we’ll talk about it.’”
The Lakers did win, and while Thelen didn’t allow the team to shave his head, he did concede to a mohawk.
So what’s at stake in tonight’s Division 2 regional semifinal contest at Cedar Springs?
“We’re trying to get (assistant coach) Phil (VanRees) to shave his head, but I don’t know if he’ll do it,” Thelen said with a laugh.
