Tri-Cities Kids League season off to a fast start

Cubs 10, Astros 0: The Cubs’ Braxton Wert had a single, double and two RBIs, as the Cubs rolled to a win. Mason Wolffis and Sean Parker each added hits in the win. The Astros’ Keeton Kval pitched two shutout innings, and Jack Stempky and Hayden Haynes each had singles.

Raptors 8, Volcanoes 0: The Raptors’ Jason Keena, Carsen Boyink and Garrett Henning combined for a two-hit shutout while striking out 14 batters. Thomas Draper pitched well and played good defense and Jack Leech made a great catch in the outfield.

Rivercats 6, Reds 2: Reese Medell struck out nine batters in three innings of work for the victorious Rivercats. He also had three hits at the plate. Tyler Williams and Jameson Goorman also had two hits each. For the Reds, Joe Anderson had a hit and two RBIs, and Travis Thompson and Jack Nicholson had a hit apiece.

Red Sox 11, Brewers 4: The Red Sox opened their season with a win thanks to two scoreless innings pitched by Brad Buitenhuis. Ryan Ploeg also turned a double play. For the Brewers, Peter Gannon pitched well and had a double in the team’s four-run fourth inning. Pitchers Ethan Hennessey and Kyle Eveland also showed poise on the mound.

Marlins 5, Express 1: Mason Osborne had a triple and drove in three runs for the victorious Marlins. Landon Keeler also pitched two great innings. Sam Helm had a nice hit, and Mason Holsum pitched three solid innings for the Express.

Rivercats 8, Marlins 4: The Rivercats’ Tommy Fine reached base three times with two hits and a walk. Alex Girard added a hit and walk. The Marlins’ Landon Keeler and Mason Osborne had two hits apiece.

Raptors 12, Diamondbacks 5: The Raptors’ Jason Keena had three hits, three RBIs and scored twice, while teammate Nick Beers had a double, three RBIs and scored twice. Kyle Wiersma also contributed a three-run home run. Will Brown and Ben Bissell each had two RBIs for the D’backs, and Stephen Zambiasi pitched well in his first game.

Reds 7, Astros 2: The Reds pounded out 14 hits, with Trenton Blanchard leading the way with two hits and three RBIs. Jake Metzdorf went 2-for-4, including a double, and Jeremiah Bosse went 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI. For the Astros, Zach Penrice went 2-for-2 with an RBI, Jack Stempky had two hits and Connor Burke had an RBI.
