The Whitecaps will have Steven Moya at the plate with runners at the corners and one out in the bottom of the ninth, potentially able to end the game with one swing of the bat. Friday’s regularly scheduled game will take place at either 7 p.m. or 30 minutes after the conclusion of the suspended game, whichever comes second. It will be a full nine-inning contest.

On Thursday, the Whitecaps scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth to erase a 3-1 deficit before play was suspended.

As the rain persisted, Luis Castillo led off the game-tying rally with a single to left. After a fielder’s choice groundout put Hernan Perez aboard with one away, Rob Brantly lined a single to right-center that advanced Perez to third. Nick Castellanos then grounded an infield single into the hole at shortstop that scored Perez and left runners at first and second with one out.

James Robbins followed with a sharply hit one-hopper to third that was fielded by Cole Tyrell, whose throw to second bounced well short and skipped into right field.

Pinch runner Josh Ashenbrenner came around to score the game-tying run and make it a 3-3 ballgame.

Moments later, a breathtaking bolt of lightning lit up the night sky and the game was put into a lightning delay with runners at the corners and one out in the bottom of the ninth. As the lightning and rain continued, the game was ultimately suspended.

Earlier in the evening, the Whitecaps got on the board with a solo homer by Rob Brantly in the bottom of the first inning.

The 1-0 lead held until the sixth thanks to starting pitcher Josue Carreno. The 20-year-old native of Venezuela took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before allowing an unearned run on two errors and a single. The only hit against him came from Rico Noel, who lifted a light flare to left-center with B.J. Guinn at second base.

Guinn advanced to third on the base hit and then scored the game-tying run when Castillo was unable to field the ball cleanly in center.
