VanArendonk appeared in three games for CMU last season during the Rainbow Classic tournament in Hawaii. He totaled 12 minutes and two rebounds.

In high school, VanArendonk was named one of the top 100 players in the state by the Detroit Free Press in 2009.

He led Grand Haven to the Class A state quarterfinals in 2010 as a senior. During that playoff run, VanArendonk gained fame for smashing a glass backboard on a dunk during the Bucs’ regional finals victory over Rockford at Grandville High School. The contest was moved to Jenison High School, where the Bucs prevailed, 39-36.

VanArendonk’s father, Craig, is a 1981 Hope College graduate who played college basketball for the Flying Dutchmen.
