“One of the things that’s really exciting for me is, when we’re all done and we look at the demographics of the race, where the people come from, we had 14 different states accounted for last year, and 26 different states already this year,” said event organizer Todd Losee. “It’s exciting to see people coming from all over come run a race and visit our area. That’s one of the reasons we like putting on this race is because it’s a spectacular area, and it lets us draw people in.”

Losee said that nearly 800 people registered for last year’s three races, including around 125 in the marathon and 400 in the half-marathon. Not that many people ended up completing the races, however, because of a lightning storm that hit West Michigan the morning of the races.

“Registration is ahead of last year, which is exciting,” Losee said. “Plus, things are looking just great for the weather. It’s supposed to be about perfect for this type of an event, sunny with lows in the 50s and highs in the 60s.”

Countless volunteers are needed to make Saturday’s races possible. A list of volunteer opportunities, along with a race map and plenty of other information, can be found online at www.oktoberfestmarathon.com.
