Lakes 8 to turn purple again to fight cancer

“Anybody interested in putting the name of somebody affected by cancer can sponsor a jersey,” said Spring Lake High School English teacher Jennifer Knittel, who is heading up T-shirts and uniform sales for the Lakers. “We’re down to the last seven jerseys, and we have a couple people interested, so we will have names on the back of all the jerseys.”

Knittel sponsored a jersey in honor of her sister, who is battling breast cancer.

“The people who sponsor jerseys get to keep them after the game, so I’ll be able to get that jersey and give it to her,” Knittel said.

She noted that T-shirt sales, which fans can wear to Friday’s game, are down from last year.

“Part of our challenge is, it’s an away game for us, so I’m not sure as many people plan on going to the game,” Knittel said.
