Since several programs in the Lakes Eight dropped their tennis programs before this season, the holdovers from the league — Fruitport, Ludington and Spring Lake — were forced to find other schools to form a new tennis-only conference. It happened with the addition of North Muskegon, Western Michigan Christian and Whitehall, forming the Coastal Conference. The six teams completed for the league title at Fruitport High School, where Spring Lake was able to make it 10 conference championships in a row.
The Lakers totaled 36 points, which edged runner-up Ludington by four. North Muskegon was third with 28, followed by Whitehall (20), Fruitport (8) and WMC (4).
Spring Lake took home four flight championships, won by No. 1 singles player Ryan Fedewa, and its No. 1, No. 2, and No. 4 doubles teams.
Fedewa defeated Ludington’s Jake Perez in the finals, 6-2, 6-2.
The team of Nick Parnell and Michael Hartliep defeated Whitehall at No. 1 doubles and Harrison Palmer and Stuart Velarde scored a Lakers’ win over Ludington in the finals at No. 2.
At No. 4, Spring Lake’s Brenden Peel and Josh Cole prevailed over Ludington, 6-1, 7-5.
Jonah Yoshonis and Erik Johnson were runners-up for Spring Lake at No. 3 doubles.
The top finish for Fruitport was turned in by Alex Bowen at No. 3 singles, who was 2-1 during the day and took fourth.
