SL girls cross country one step closer to league title

It wasn’t enough, as Beeler captured first-place with a time of 19 minutes, 16 seconds, propelling the Lakers to their second-straight jamboree win. The Lakers totaled 29 points, beating runner-up Fremont by 14. Fruitport placed sixth with 168 points.

There is one jamboree remaining, which will be held at Fremont on Oct. 18. If Spring Lake can complete the sweep, it will clinch its first conference title since 2009.

“At the beginning of the year, we always talk about three rings,” said Spring Lake coach Aaron Andres. “In one ring is the conference title; the second is regionals; then the third is to move on to state. Many times, the first one is overlooked by teams, but it’s nice these girls have made it a top priority.”
