Steinlage named first-team All-Big 10

Steinlage was joined by Hudsonville Uniy Christian graduate Laura Heyboer on the Big Ten First Team.

Steinlage, a sophomore, was moved to center back on defense for the Spartans this season and helped the unit limit the opposition to just 17 goals this season — tied for the fewest in the Big Ten with league champion Penn State.

Steinlage also had 11 shots and seven shots on goal for the Spartans, which tallied a 14-6-1 record this season but failed to earn a berth into the NCAA Tournament’s field of 64.

The Spartans were third in the Big Ten with a 7-4 record but lost to Illinois in the second-round of the league tournament.

VEACH EARNS PRESEASON HONORS

Grand Haven graduate Emma Veach was one of four players from Michigan Tech University to earn preseason All-Conference honors in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for women’s basketball.

Veach, who sat out last season after transferring to Michigan Tech from Grand Valley State University, should be a part of a loaded Huskies squad that last season lost in the NCAA Division 2 national championship game.

The Huskies were also pegged as the preseason favorite to win the GLIAC.

Veach was the GLIAC Freshman of the Year and All-GLIAC First Team honoree during her first two seasons at Grand Valley.
