Lorimer has a rare combination of speed on the base paths, power at the plate and a fantastic arm. Her talents caught they eye of college coaches across the Midwest, and on Tuesday, Lorimer made her college choice official as she signed a national letter of intent to play softball at Central Michigan University.
“I kind of had my heart set on schools a little bit closer, but my hitting coach (Curtis Morgan) really encouraged me to look at Central,” Lorimer said. “I started talking to Central, and I loved the campus, the history of Central Michigan softball, the coach (Margo Jonker), who has been there for 31 years. To play underneath her is going to be fantastic.”
Lorimer finished her junior season at Spring Lake with a .446 batting average, along with a team-high four home runs. She also tallied 16 triples, which was the third-best season total in the state record books.
REENDERS ALSO A CHIPPEWA
Grand Haven senior Kristen Reenders will also be attending Central Michigan University to play on the Chippewas’ volleyball squad.
Reenders made her pledge to CMU several months ago, and finalized her decision by signing a national letter-of-intent on Wednesday.
Reenders, the daughter of Mark and Jana Reenders, said she also considered Ohio State, Purdue and Valparaiso.
