It was the best finish of the day for the Lakers, who finished 24th overall out of 36 teams at the finals. Cranbrook-Kingswood won the state title with 328.5 points, while the Lakers had 15.
“The girls swam great,” said Lakers’ coach Nikki Theune. “Even though we didn’t place top 16 in the some events, they did get their best times.
“A coach can’t ask for more. It can be a very intimidating meet and I feel that they all performed well. It was a great experience for all of us.”
Senior Ginny Cotterall earned second-team all-state honors with her 15th-place showing the 500 freestyle, and also placed 22nd in the 200 freestyle. She also swam a leg on the Lakers’ 17th place 200 medley relay, along with Jaylen Adkins, Gleason and Roxane Strobel.
Adkins competed in both the 50 and 100 freestyle events, placing 34th and 43rd, respectively.
The Lakers’ 200 freestyle relay placed 22nd and its 400 relay took 23rd.
