Law scored 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds on Monday and willed the Jayhawks to a 76-68 victory over the Calvin College junior varsity team at MCC’s Bartels-Rode Gymnasium.

“I would say that Isiah Law, with 22 points and 12 rebounds, really singlehandedly willed us to this victory,” Jayhawks’ coach Dave Schlump said after the win. “His contributions of rebounding offensively and defensively has just really helped us. Another great game for him to go along with five assists.”

The victory improves the Jayhawks’ record to 7-2 this season.

Law is averaging 15.6 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. His best performance of the season came on Nov. 25, when he poured in 30 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in a 75-67 win over Alpena Community College.

MCC is back in action on Friday, as it hosts the Buffalo Wild Wings Holiday Classic tournament. On Friday, the Jayhawks battle the Alma College junior varsity, and on Saturday, they square off against Mid-Michigan Community College. Both games are scheduled for 7 p.m.

The MCC women’s basketball team is also off to a blazing start, thanks in part to a Grand Haven graduate.

Freshmen forward Lindsey Burnside led the Jayhawks with 16 points and 10 rebounds on Monday to lead MCC to a 80-54 win over the Calvin junior varsity. The win helps MCC improves to 7-0 this season.

Burnside is third on the team in scoring average at 11.4 per game, and leads the team in both rebounding (9.9) and blocked shots (2.6).

The women’s version of the Buffalo Wild Wings Holiday Classic at MCC will start at 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The Jayhawks host Cincinnati State on Friday and Delta Community College on Saturday.
