The Bucs persavered through a physical battle against the Crusaders and overcame Detroit King’s 17-5 run in the third quarter to pull out a 43-39 victory.

The contest was played at Detroit Country Day Middle School.

Grand Haven coach Katie Kowalczyk-Fulmer said she was proud her squad could bounce back with such a positive win after suffering its first loss against East Kentwood two weeks ago.

“This was exactly what we needed,” she said. “Even if we would have lost, this was the type of game we needed to make us better in the long run. They were bigger than us and they could jump out of the gym. They were an outstanding rebounding team.

“We won on the road against a very quality team and we had to overcome some adversity (in the third quarter). We took a step forward today. This is a game that will help us in the tournament in March.”
