Girls basketball: Lakers bounce back, beat Vikings

The Lakers got off to a sluggish start and led by just a point — 4-3 — at the end of the first quarter.

In the second, Spring Lake got its second wind and raced to a 23-12 halftime lead.

“That first quarter, we were trying to get our legs coming off that high-energy Ludington game,” said Lakers’ coach Rich Hyde, whose team is now 6-1. “We were just waiting for our legs to catch up. Once we got into the second quarter, we got some easy baskets against their press.”

Hyde credited Morgan Gagnon with a solid game. She scored nine points and helped ease the loss of Jessica Lewakowski, who missed her second consecutive game because of a concussion.
