Smith, DeKam help WMC boys edge NorthPointe Christian

The Warriors led 17-12 at the first stop, 36-29 at intermission and 55-49 going into the final period.

The victory moves the Warriors to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the River Valley Conference.

Freshman Preston Huckaby had 27 points for NorthPointe Christian and Michael Hanson chipped in 15 points.

The Warriors host Spring Lake today.


Host Western Michigan Christian held Grand Rapids NorthPointe Christian’s two scoring leaders — Regan Cross and Liz Mol — to a combined eight points Friday night en route to a 47-27 conference win.

The victory moves WMC into sole possession of first place and brings their record to 9-0 overall and 4-0 in the River Valley Conference.

WMC juniors Vanessa Eekhoff and Rachel Bruinsma each recorded a double-double. Eekhoff scored 12 of her 16 points in the second half to lead the Warriors. The center also grabbed 15 rebounds while Bruinsma recorded 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Miya Oakes had six steals and five assists for the Warriors. Julie Merz had four steals and Rachel Karsten four assists for WMC, which hosts Spring Lake today.

The Lady Warriors led 12-4 at the first stop, 24-10 at intermission and 33-16 going into the final period.

Junior Varsity: WMC pulled aout a 24-22 win. Lindsey Johnson tossed in 10 points while Olivia Varnado added six for WMC.
