Without Eidson, Bucs pull out win over West Ottawa

Several Grand Haven players answered the call, including junior point guard Sean Steffel. He knocked down four 3-pointers, including back-to-back triples to stop a West Ottawa run in the fourth quarter, leading the host Buccaneers to an impressive 58-43 victory.

“It was a good team win,” Bucs’ coach Steve Hewitt said after his team improved to 4-4 overall and 2-2 in the O-K Red. “The kids played well together. They took it upon themselves as a challenge, playing without Alex. It was great.”

The Bucs got off to a blazing start, finding open players inside for easy buckets on their way to an early lead. With the inside game clicking, the Bucs began firing from long range. Steffel’s triple early in the second quarter made it 23-16 Grand Haven. The Bucs’ lead grew to 32-16 on another Steffel 3-pointer. Matt Kroll’s bucket to beat the halftime buzzer put the home team on top 34-16 and capped off a 14-0 run for the Bucs.
