The Lakers’ Adam Clauss registered a steal and a basket with 12 seconds remaining to draw the visitors to within a point. Coopersville then missed the front end of a one-and-one situation at the foul line, giving Spring Lake a chance at the win.

“Right as we got to about the free throw line, our player got stripped of the ball,” said a disappointed Lakers’ coach Bill Core, whose team is now 5-5. “It was pretty anticlimactic when we were looking for a fantastic finish.”

Seeing his first action of the season, sophomore Michael Warren scored 24 points and pulled down 13 rebounds, helping Fruitport Calvary Christian pull into a first-place tie in the Alliance League with a thrilling 65-64 win over Holland Calvary.

Warren had to sit out the first third of the season after transferring from Spring Lake.

Guthrie Collins had 16 points for the Eagles.
