Both were on display against Grandville as the host Bucs raced to a huge lead and never looked back in a 65-31 victory over the Bulldogs.

“We played about as well as we could play,” said Grand Haven coach Katie Kowalczyk-Fulmer, whose team led 37-6 late in the first half. “We’re just playing our game and continuing to get better.”

With the victory, Grand Haven improves to 11-1 on the year and 5-1 in O-K Red Conference play. The No. 2-ranked Bucs jump into a first-place tie in the league with No. 7 East Kentwood, which was upset by Rockford on Tuesday, 35-31.

Grand Haven was certainly hitting on all cylinders on Tuesday. The Bucs led 19-6 after the first quarter thanks in part to Hannah Wilkerson, who came off the bench to score six points in the opening frame.

In the second quarter, Megan Newhouse caught fire as she scored six of her team’s 22 points, helping the Bucs lead 41-8 at the half.
