WMC Basketball: Girls improve to 12-2

Juniors Rachel Bruinsma and Vanessa Eekhoff led the way with 15 and 10 points, respectively. Bruinsma also had nine rebounds and Eekhkoff grabbed seven boards for the Warriors.

Rachel Karsten and Rayonee Grant each chipped in with seven points. Karsten also dished out four assists and had three steals. Miya Oakes led WMC in assists with six and had four steals.

Junior Varsity: WMC defeated Montague, 30-23. Loralle Hallenbeck and Lindsey Johnson each tossed in seven points for WMC.


Western Michigan Christian’s boys team dug itself into too deep of a hole early on at home Monday night and dropped a 63-45 decision to Montague.

The Warriors trailed 15-2 at the end of the first quarter, 30-14 at intermission and 48-26 entering the fourth quarter.

They fought back to within 11 points midway through the fourth quarter before running out of gas.

Junior Henry DeKam led the way with 12 points and seven rebounds while classmates James Jackson and Robert Wilkinson had 10 points and eight points, respectively. Each grabbed six rebounds.

John Waller added seven points.

Junior Varsity: WMC defeated the Wildcats, 64-21. Charles Phillips, Jason Normandin and Sam Mast each poured in 10 points while Christian Rogers and Chaise Schuitema each added eight.

Freshmen: WMC handed an undefeated North Muskegon team its first lost, 64-49. Tully Groenendyk led the Warriors with 17 points followed by Devin Eekhoff with 14, Jacob Ray 10, Derrick Holt nine and Nick Wolffis seven.
