Eidson's clutch jumper lifts Bucs over Rams

Eidson hit a tough jumper from the elbow with a pair of Rams’ defenders in his face, putting the Bucs up two points with 3 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.

Rockford’s desperation heave from half-court came far too close for comfort for Grand Haven — hitting the front rim — but didn’t fall, allowing Bucs’ head coach Steve Hewitt to breate a big sigh of relief in his team’s crucial 43-41 victory.

The win was not only Grand Haven’s most impressive of the season, but a crippling blow to its arch rival Rockford, which was handed just its second loss of the season — both coming in the O-K Red Conference. The Rams are now tied with East Kentwood for first-place in the league, with Hudsonville and Grand Haven each two games back.

“In terms of the opponent and with it being on the road, (it’s huge),” Hewitt said of the upset. “When we’re playing on both ends and concentrating on that, we’re a good team. I feel we’ve shown that with some of our wins lately.”

Junior Varsity: Grand Haven needed double overtime to edge Rockford, 58-51. Marcus Tumblin had 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Korey Searle added 15 points and five boards. Connor Grimes scored 1 for the Bucs (11-3, 7-3 O-K Red), who trailed by 11 points in the second half.

Freshmen: Grand Haven edged Rockford, 40-36. Noah Lein scored 11 points while Josh Snively added 10 points and six steals. Shaefer Thelen scored 13 points for the Bucs (11-3, 7-3 O-K Red).
