SL's Lukkari shatters school diving record

Lukkari’s score of 280.2 in the six-dive format eclipsed the previous record of 269.1 held by Rick Brown, which was established in 1983.
“It’s funny because Manistee doesn’t have a running tally on its scoreboard, so we had no clue if he was close or not,” said Lakers’ dive coach Tom Knight. “I said, ‘Let’s just hope we hear something starting with 270,’ but when they announced 280, it was just like, ‘Whoa.’”
“(Erik) started out strong, and just kept getting better with each round. Erik was very determined during warm up, and actually changed his dive list before turning it in.”
Lukkari took out his reverse 1 1/2 and instead attempted a back somersault 1 1/2, which drew all 6.5 scores from the judges.
“He had three dives that scored over 50 points, which is just phenominal,” Knight said. “Breaking the record in the last dual meet is great, and doing it outside your home pool is fantastic. I know it was definitely time for that record to fall, and I’m happy for Erik to have taken it.”
