The Bucs battled tough against a field involving 13 other schools and came away with six weight class champions. Four others from Grand Haven also moved on to next Saturday’s individual regionals by placing in the top four.
Three of the Bucs’ champions prevailed over their regional semifinal opponent on Wednesday, arch-rival Rockford. At 171 pounds, Connor Moynihan defeated the Rams’ Robby Gorton, 14-7; Dakota Juarez needed overtime to get past the Rams’ Austin Scogg at 152 pounds; and 103-pounder Camden Bertucci pinned Rockford’s Stephen Jendritz.
Other champions for Grand Haven included Allen Torres at 135 pounds; Dakota Smith at 189; and Garrett Kelly at 215.
Bucs who suffered losses but will still compete at regionals are Josh Juchartz at 125, who placed second; Abe Westerman at 152, who placed fourth; 215-pounder Matt Mulcahy, who took third; and heavyweight Ian Radde, who placed fourth.
