The contest was originally scheduled for Friday, but was pushed back a day due to poor weather conditions.

The Trojans welcomed back senior point guard Lauren Hazekamp, who missed several weeks with a broken foot. She scored eight points for Fruitport, which had to hold off a determined Lions squad.

“It was a physical, knock-down, drag-out game,” said Fruitport coach Bob German. “The Trojans led throughout, but the Lions made a run late in the fourth quarter to cut our lead from 12 to four.”

Amber Carmean paced the Trojans with 12 points and six rebounds. Senior center Rachael Folkmier scored seven points and Toni Parker grabbed six rebounds for the Trojans (13-7, 9-5 Lakes Eight).

Emily Tiernan led Newaygo (2-17, 1-13) with 12 points.

The Lakers and Trojans will tip off tonight at Fruitport High School at 7:30 p.m.
