College Showcase: GH alums finish strong at Big 10 swim & dive championships

Sam Schulze improved upon his personal-best time in the 50-yard freestyle, placing 42nd overall at 20.64 seconds.

Schulze was also selected to swim on the Spartans’ 200 free relay team, which placed ninth in 1 minute, 20.75 seconds.

Schulze turned in lifetime-best performances in the 100 backstroke (50.02, 24th place) and the 100 freestyle (45.51 seconds, 52nd place).

Jason Lintjer swam a time of 57.77 seconds in the 100 breaststroke, good for 29th place. He also competed in the 200 breaststroke, swimming a time of 2:09.09, finishing 37th.

In the 50 free, Lintjer placed 66th at 21.77 seconds.

Michigan State finished 10th in the Big Ten. Michigan won the meet, held in Iowa City, Iowa, while Ohio State took second.


Grand Haven High School graduate Becca Addison was named first-team all-Big Ten Conference for her performance during the recent indoor track and field season.

Addison, a two-time All-American, is a four-time Big Ten champion and Academic All-Big Ten honoree.

Ranked 11th in the nation in the 800-meter run, Addison won that event at the Big Ten Indoor Championships with a time of 2:06.07. She was also a member of Michigan’s winning distance medley relay team.

Addison also won the 8,000-meter championship at the event.

Earlier this year, Addison ran to victory in the 800 at the SPIRE Invitational, held in Geneva, Ohio.

The NCAA Indoor Champsionships will be held in Boise, Idaho, March 9-10.
