SL freshmen finish 8-0 in league play

Spring Lake dropped its final game of the season, losing at Newaygo, 52-45. Kyle Zietlow led the Lakers’ charge with 13 points, four rebounds and three assists. Charlie Warber added 11 points, two rebounds and two steals, while Nathan Batts had eight points for Spring Lake, which finished the year at 13-6 overall and 10-3 in league play.

Western Michigan Christian dropped a 61-51 decision to Covenant Christian. The Warriors led 15-3 at the first stop and 22-11 at intermission but couldn’t hold on in the second half. Logan Waller led the way for the Warriors with 16 points, followed by Jacob Ray with 12 and Alex Rop with 10. Sam Mast had six points and six rebounds while Rop had 11 rebounds and five steals. Sam Bekins pulled down six rebounds and Jason Normandin had four steals.


Grand Haven closed its season with a 55-50 win over Forest Hills Northern (18-2). The Bucs (16-4) received 24 points from Noah Lein. Nic Holwerda added eight points, seven rebounds and three assists, while Shaefer Thelen pulled down five rebounds.

Spring Lake won its 11th consecutive game and finished a perfect 8-0 in Lakes Eight play following Thursday’s 54-48 win at Newaygo. Chris Boychuck led the way with 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Lakers (14-3). Ben Kramer added nine points, and Joe Czajka dished out five assists.

WMC won in overtime, 51-47. The Warriors trailed 36-29 going into the fourth quarter, then battled back to tie it at 43-43 at the end of regulation. Tully Groenendyk led the way with 15 points followed by Devin Eekhoff with 13, Derrick Holt 12 and John Larson 11.
