Unbeaten Kent City edges upset-minded WMC

Tribune Staff • Jul 21, 2015 at 11:25 AM

The Warriors’ senior guard Miya Oakes drilled a pair of 3-pointers en route to a 16-11 first-quarter lead, and WMC hung on for a 25-18 lead at intermission.

The No. 5-ranked Eagles came out in the second half with an aggressive press and man-to-man defense and tied the score at 33-33 going into the final period.

Senior guard Alleigh Braford canned consecutive 3-pointers in the fourth quarter for a game-high 16 points to put the Eagles on top.

This was Kent City’s second win over WMC this year as they defeated the Warriors earlier this season by one point, 44-43.

“Only twice has the other team been within 12 points of us and both times it has been Western Michigan Christian,” said Kent City coach Scott Carlson.

“They’re tough, but we have very good seniors who know how to get it done.”
