Sophomore attack Trevor McNamara led the Buccaneers with five goals. Matt Burns added three goals and an assist. Ian Dickerson scored twice, and Gerrit Boone had a goal and two assists.
“Senior long stick middie Christian Vandrie played a great game,” said Bucs’ coach Murle Greer. “Our defense was very strong, forcing numerous turnovers that turned into scoring opportunities on the other side of the field.
The Buccaneers are now 3-0 in league play heading into Tuesday’s home date with Holland Christian.
Junior Varsity: The Buccaneers remained undefeated with an 18-0 win over Lowell. Austin Shiflette led the team in scoring while Tristan Groh recorded his second shutout of the season in goal.
LAKERS’ UNDERCLASSMEN SHINE
Spring Lake’s girls track team had a pair of first-place finishes in the freshman-sophomore events at Saturday’s Sparta Tri-Level Classic meet.
The meet was scored in three levels – juniors and seniors, freshmen and sophomores and middle school. The Lakers placed third in both the junior-senior and freshman-sophomore standings, and they did not compete in the middle school competition.
Lakers’ returning state qualifier Allie LeRoix continued to build on her impressive resume in the pole vault, as the sophomore easily won with a vault of 10 feet.
Sophomore Ashley Warner also came out on top in the 1,600-meter run, as she ran to victory in 5 minutes, 39.43 seconds.
The Lakers’ boys placed seventh out of eight teams at Coopersville’s Bronco Invitational Classic.
Senior Chris Velarde placed third in the 400 dash, while Jake Chittenden was third in the 800 run.
