Those dreams of a strong finish at the state meet came to a crashing end at the Division 2 regional meet, when Fry 5-putted the final hole and missed qualifying for the state meet by three strokes.
"For sure, I was disappointed not to make the state meet," Fry said. "It was special for our team to make it to regionals, and I had high expectations for myself to make it to state and do well, but I 5-putted that last green at regionals and missed it."
Fry eased some of that disappointment earlier this week as he shot a one-over-par round of 72, which tied him for first place in the Michigan Junior Amateur qualifying tournament at StoneWater Country Club.
Fry and Caledonia's Ben Cook, the second medalist, were two of seven players who advanced to the 34th Michigan Junior State Amateur, to be held July 30 through August 2 at the Flint Golf Club.
